Jon and I had the privilege of walking Isaac through a prayer of Salvation today. It was so unbelievably (is that a word?) awesome! Praise the Lord! Here is his story:
I'll start back a bit...rewind to this past July when Isaac went to Vacation Bible School. I really think this is where he really started to understand what it meant to have "Jesus in your heart". Every morning before VBS was over, one of the leaders would get up and talk to the kids about what they had learned that day and each day he talked about what it meant to ask Jesus into their hearts. I remember sitting in the back of the church thinking and praying specifically for Isaac. I watched him listen to the teacher and every day on the way home we had a talk about what he had heard and he was so open and willing to tell me about the lesson that day and answered all my questions. I was amazed at how much he understood. Not that he couldn't grasp it...it was just Isaac doesn't share too much about what he's thinking so when he does, you realize he has been thinking about it for a long time. It was so fun to hear his heart this summer and all this "knowledge" he was getting from VBS and church. All the pieces were falling together for him.
I remember another day we were walking through Target and it was just Me, Isaac & Elliot. It was during the week of VBS and he just started singing at the top of his lungs (Remember we're in Target) - "My heart is black with sin...until the Savior came in!" I loved it. I just smiled as he sang his little heart out! Then I remember him turning to Elliot and saying - you know El's, if you ask Jesus into your heart you can go to Heaven. There he was preaching to his brother for all to hear in Target. He didn't care who heard! I love the innocence of a child's faith!
Fast forward to September...we were outside in the backyard one day and Madi & Spencer were being silly saying they were brother & sister. So I jumped in and said...you know, you really are brother & sister, brother & sister in Christ that is. They both looked at each other and smiled super big. They realized that was the case and were excited about that. I remember looking over to see Isaac listening and I could tell those wheels were turning about something...
Today...after church today we headed home for lunch. We're sitting at the table eating and Isaac says..."Can I ask Jesus into my heart today?" Of course Jon and I were all smiles and starting talking to Isaac about what that meant and why he wanted to do this today. He told us - "So Mason and I can be brothers in Heaven someday!" From there we talked about how this was an important decision and we wanted to make sure he was doing this because of what God did for us and not to just be "Mason's brother." It was fun to share the verse - John 3:16 with him and have him even be able to recite that from memory. I love hearing him say - "God so loved the world that he gave his only "forgotten, um I mean begotten son!" It's too cute! But that is one of the verses he has been memorizing for Sparkies and it's so cool to be able to walk him through that verse and have him tell you exactly what it means. We then talked about Romans 10:9, how if we confess with our mouths and believe with our hearts - we will be saved!
At one point during our conversation he wanted to hear about the day sissy was saved. So we pulled up the post on our blog and read it to him. What is amazing to think - look at the date of her post. September 21, 2008. Same Sunday, just two years prior! Amazing...I love to see God's timing in all this!
Well it was so fun to share in this special day with Isaac and pray with him. Thought you would all love to hear his good news and celebrate with us & the angels in Heaven today!
